Stone Carving - Mahabilipuram

Stone Carving - Mahabilipuram, originally uploaded by Lisa Tripp.

The rock carvings in Mahabilipuram are just so beautiful...warn with age and the elements...They were carved in the 7th century...and just so full of life and energy.

The nandi bull was so big it invited you to sit on it, and I thought of the whale in front of the Santa Cruz Natural History Museum. People have probably been climbing on these stones and stone carvings since the beginning when people could climb. This was a fun stop on the way to the city of Chennai.

Sara, I guess you'll have many stories to tell me when I come back to Santa Cruz. I can't wait to hear them
in front of a choccolate croissant at Kelly's. After the blessing elephant, here is another challenge: go in a park and see a tiger. I want pictures. Go Sara, go!

I love the global participation in this blog!

Another radiant picture of Sara with a elephant. It is amazing how immediate and appealing the depictions of animals can be, across time and culture.

We had a little family get together last night to decorate the tree, and gave Gemma her honorary citizenship certificate. Lots of fun. We logged on to your blog and brought Daddy up to date on your travels. Tash has got it Bookmarked on her computer, and I will do the same for Daddy when we go up for dinner tonight.

Thinking of you ... Keep on blogging!

XO Cynthia

Hi Sara!
Wow!
We've been there! I could have given you a fun challenge if I had known you were going there! Isn't it just AMAZING!? It is one of my most absolute favorite places I've ever been. So magical. Did you get my challenge for Chennai???
